Most Civic LX, EX, and Sport trims with the sedan or coupe body style are equipped with Honda’s VTEC technology. You will find that most EX-T, EX-L, or Touring Trim levels do not have VTEC engines. Hatchback models usually don’t have VTEC engines as well.
What is Honda VTEC?
VTEC stands for Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control and will generate more horsepower for a much faster ride. Simply put, this technology modifies the volume of air that the engine intakes allowing for more powerful combustion. The end result of this is more horsepower and greater speed at a high rpm.
Types of Honda Civic Models
There are 3 classifications of body style when it comes to the Honda Civic - Sedan, Coupe, and Hatchback. Each body type has slightly varying design and functional elements. If you have decided that you would like to have a VTEC engine, you won’t find that many Civic hatchbacks come equipped with the technology.
Each year model Honda Civic has multiple sedan and coupe body styles with VTEC included. If you are interested in having a VTEC engine, you will most likely need to get a sedan or coupe.
